About this Website

This website was created to help people who are affected by HSV 1 or 2, find and fund researchers trying to create better treatments and find a cure.

There are over 500 million people with a form of the herpes simplex virus, not all suffer from the same symptoms. But for the millions who have a difficult time with the virus, we hope that this website will be a rallying point where people can help stream funding toward researchers who need it.

HSV is often viewed as a virus that does not pose a serious threat, but those who have experienced herpes know the stress and anguish it can cause.

It can form painful blisters on the face, genitals or other parts of the body. These blisters, when present on ones body, can help spread more lethal viruses such as HIV. Herpes can occur near the eyes, referred to as Ocular Herpes Simplex, which is one of the largest causes of blindness around the world. The virus is one of the most common causes of Encephalitis, an acute swelling of the brain which can - in some cases - lead to death.

Despite the large effects and millions of people who have the virus, HSV research is largely ignored. Classified as a non-life threatening virus it does not receive the same attention as viruses like HIV, or Hepatitis -- which is fair. But now, with the help of the internet, informing and linking a huge body of previously isolated people in a very inexpensive, grassroots way is possible. Together we can find and help fund research that will improve the quality of life for ourselves, ones we care about and many others around the world.

If you are interested in helping find answers, please see the Discover and Fund Research section to see how we all might be able to make a difference.
